Mannequin Art with WoodUbend Mouldings

Hello folks!

I have a strange question for you. Are you into mannequins?

Yes, mannequins. As in the lifeless dummies stores use for clothing displays.

Because I am! I am absolutely obsessed with mannequin art.

I know what you might be thinking, but “no.”  My love for mannequins did not start as a substitute for socialization during these long months of isolation. I have been working on mannequin art for over a year now and it has become my favourite kind of project for one simple reason: curves baby!

I love the shape of the human body and how its contours can showcase what WoodUbend mouldings can do. WoodUbend mouldings can twist around limbs, bend over shoulders and knees, and wrap nicely around the head and, uhumm, bottoms.

Mannequins are the perfect canvas for our mouldings!

I have worked with so many types for mannequins: full bodies, torsos, men, women, and even stand-alone heads. They all started as bare meaningless objects and transformed into pieces of art that could almost tell you a story.

This gentleman, for example, started as a pink, very plastic mannequin. Enter WoodUbend mouldings and bam! Meet steampunk gladiator.

I started by painting him in black all over. I decoupaged some mechanical cogs paper over his shoulder. His shorts are made out of decoupage with an ordinary brown paper bag. Then, I added WoodUbend mouldings and painted him.

I made his belt with trim #2193, and his tunic with trim #118. To get him ready for battle I added a sword to his back, moulding # 5014, and gears on his shoulders, mouldings #2011.

I completed his armor with two mouldings # 1301, and  trim #36 on his chest.

I worked on this gladiator for two days. By the time it was finished, you could almost hear the crowd cheering him up before his battle in the Roman Coliseum. I love love love how it turned out.

And what about this mysterious and sophisticated lady. Isn’t she fabulous?

For this project, I first used WoodUbend mouldings to create her outfit and then took suggestions on social media as to the colour. The majority said pink, so pink she is!

I am currently working on an enchanting mermaid.  I still have a lot of work ahead to complete this project but I know she will be epic!

I cannot wait to show it to you, so here is a sneak peak.  While checking her out, do not forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel to keep up with her progress and other crazy fun projects.

I have created so much mannequin art it would consume an entire week to go into details for every single one. Each mannequin tells a different story and has its own personality, but I have adored working on all of them. I think a mannequin art exhibition is on the horizon. In the meantime, check out this photo gallery for a sample of my obsession.

There are no limits as to how you could use WoodUbend mouldings for mannequin art. Try it, I know you will love it too. Many stores replace their mannequins after they are starting to look worn and you can acquire one for a fair price. They make beautiful art, sculptures, and store displays.

So, there are no excuses for not joining me on this mannequin art mania.
